Macedonia - natural beauties

The Pelister massif is a part of Mount Baba, located in the Southwest Macedonia. It was promoted into national park in 1948 because of its natural beauties: molika (the Tertiary flora relict) forests, granite rocks, and its morphologic relief, particularly the glacial one in the alpine area of the mountain.
Molika tree is a five-needled pine that grows only in a few parts of the Balkan peninsula. On Pelister one can also encounter the endemic Pelister snowdrop. The beauty of the landscape is enhanced by the diversified wildlife: bears, roe deer, wolves, chamois, deer, wild boars, rabbits, several species of eagles, partridges, red billed jackdaws, and the endemic Macedonian Pelagonia trout.
The park is particularly attractive for its mountain lakes: Golemo (at 2,218 m of altitude) and Malo (2,280 m). Raising high up in the sky are the steep peaks of Pelister (2,601 m),Veternica (2,420 m), Muza (2,351 m),Rzana(2,334 m), and Griva(2,198 m).
